If you’re reading this, chances are you’re getting ready for an exciting day of dirt biking! It’s an adrenaline rush and a great way to explore Bali’s hidden gems, from the lush jungles, forests and rice terraces to the black sand dunes and beautiful coastlines. But before you jump on your bike and rev that engine, there are a few important things to know to make the most of your trip.
From what to wear and how to stay hydrated, understanding your riding skills and getting your body ready. Coming prepared makes all the difference in enjoying your next enduro adventure!
Let’s start with the first thing to set yourself up for a fun day of dirt biking: fueling your body! A filling breakfast or meal before riding is important to keep your energy levels up while you ride. Eat a meal rich in carbs and protein, like oatmeal with fruits, avocado and eggs on whole-grain toast, or a filling smoothie. Eating well will make sure you’re ready to tackle those trails without running out of energy!
Now that you’re all fueled up and ready to go, let’s talk about what you’ll wear. Dressing right is not about looking cool (even though you’ll definitely rock the outfit), it’s essential to make sure you’re safe on the trails. The last thing you want is to be uncomfortable or, worse, unprotected while you ride.
If you come to ride with us at Bali Dirt Bike Adventures, we make sure you have all the right gear, from boots and protective clothing to goggles and helmets, and of course the right bike. Your safety is our top priority!
Helmet: For your own protection, always use an approved helmet. Make sure it is comfortable, fits properly, and isn’t too loose.
Protective Gear: Long sleeves and trousers are essential to keep your skin safe while riding. To stay cool while riding, look for materials that are breathable and light. For added protection, wear pads and a neck and chest protector below your long sleeves.
Boots: pick supportive, well-made boots that cover your ankles. They protect you from the effects of falling, the heat from the pipes adjacent to your legs, and the weather.
Gloves: wearing riding gloves will shield your hands from the weather and blisters while also assisting you in maintaining a firm hold on the handlebars.
Eye protection: When riding, guard your eyes from dust and bad weather by using goggles or sunglasses.
Before you head out, it’s important to have a good understanding of your own riding level. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or if you have been riding for years, being honest about your skills and level will help you pick the right dirt bike trail and enjoy your ride more. Our trials are suitable for complete beginners, such as the Tabanan trails, and for advanced riders. Our professional instructors are always there to guide you along the way, making sure that you feel confident and supported throughout your adventure!
Before you head out for your dirt biking adventure, it’s a good idea to check the weather. Bali has two main seasons: the dry season from April to October and the rainy season from November to March.
During the dry season, you can expect sunny skies and warmer temperatures, which makes great riding conditions. The roads are typically dry, perfect for beginners to start their riding journey.
Rainy season brings more rain that can lead to muddy and slippery trails, which sounds challenging, but it also adds a whole new level of excitement! The green colours become even more vibrant, and riding and slipping through puddles and muddy jungles makes it more fun. Plus, with fewer tourists on the island and riders on the trails during this time, it might feel like you have the whole place to yourself!
So, take a moment to check the forecast before you go so you know where you’re up for. Rain or shine, the dirt bike show must go on!
Even though we provide you with all the gear you need for the ride, there are a few essentials you might want to bring along:
Sunscreen: Don’t forget to pack some sunscreen for any exposed skin! It’s especially important if you plan on riding for a while. You definitely want to protect yourself from those strong sun rays.
Light backpack: A small bag can be handy for carrying your water, snacks, and any personal items you need throughout the day. It keeps everything organized and within reach!
Camera, GoPro and phone: You will want to capture those amazing views and moments during your ride! Just make sure whatever you bring is secured in your bag or on your helmet so it doesn’t get lost during your ride.
Dirt biking can really get your heart pumping and have an impact on your body, so it’s a smart move to stay in shape! Regular strength training can boost your stamina and core strength, which are key for keeping your balance and control on the bike. Think about doing exercises like squats, lunges, and planks into your routine. These will help build the muscles and condition you need to navigate those bumpy trails with ease. Being fit makes the enduro rides even more enjoyable!
Lastly, make sure to have a really good time! Dirt biking is about adventure, feeling that rush, overcoming challenges, and connecting with nature. Don’t stress if you stumble or face a challenge, everyone starts somewhere, and it’s all part of the fun!
Take a moment to enjoy those views, appreciate the experience and try to keep a positive mindset. Most importantly, have an amazing time out there on the trails!
