What to Know Before Your Bali Enduro Adventure

Age, Fitness, and Essential Info

If you want to start riding Bali’s off-roads, you’ve probably been staring at the photos of the black sand dunes and lush green jungles on your feed for weeks. And now it’s almost time to book that enduro trip!

But before you pack, select your enduro weapon and ride into Bali’s trails, let’s get real about the practical side of starting your enduro adventure with us. Being prepared is the difference between a legendary ride and a total burnout. What exactly do you need to know before riding?

In this blog, we’re breaking down the practical side of your dirt bike adventure in Bali. The level, age and height requirements, fitness levels, and the insurance and license basics you need before we hit the dirt. Ready? Let’s go!

Level, Age & Height for Dirt Biking

If you’re worried about your skill level, don’t be! We have different enduro adventures that suit all levels of experience. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner, intermediate, or a pro rider, all our off-road trails in Bali can be customized to your specific level. Our team makes sure you’re matched with the right bike and trail that fits your age, height, physique, and level.

Minimum age

Adult riders can officially join the mission from 18 years old. If you are or have a rider under 18 that is ready to shred, they are more than welcome to join us! But only with a signed parental disclaimer. Also, to make sure these younger riders stay safe and in control, they need to measure at least 150 cm so they can comfortably reach the pegs and feel confident on the dirt bike.

While the kids under 18 can ride solo (with our guides of course), we always find that the experience is even better when a parent joins the adventure to share those river crossings and jungle climbs.

Height considerations

While being taller can help you put a foot in slippery jungle clay, it isn’t a requirement for a great ride and there is no minimum height requirement to ride with us if you’re 18 or above.

We match you with the right bike

Choosing a dirt bike that fits your body is not just about comfort or looks, it’s about riding safely and with confidence. A bike that’s too tall or too heavy can be intimidating or dangerous, especially for beginners. On the other hand, a bike that’s too small can limit your control, performance, and growth as a rider.

We offer a range of high quality machines, from the compact Kawasaki KX65 motocross bike for young riders, to the heavier and powerful KTM 300 EXC enduro Champion Edition.

Our professional English-speaking guides teach you the body position and braking points needed to handle a bike regardless of your height and weight. It doesn’t matter if you’re riding tight jungle tracks or on the wide-open beach in Tabanan, your bike should match your level.

Physical Fitness

The good news is that you don’t have to be an Olympic athlete or the fittest person on earth to enjoy off-road riding in Bali, but you should be prepared for a full-body workout. Enduro is an activity that demands both mental and physical focus, testing your stamina from the very first river crossing to the final hill climb in Kintamani.

Navigating the trails and technical ruts requires constant movement and balance. Because of the high-focus nature of the sport, you may experience mental exhaustion alongside physical fatigue. Being physically and mentally ready for the action allows you to handle the intense sections of the trail with confidence, making the whole experience a legendary adventure rather than a struggle.

Success on the trail starts before you even jump on the plane to Bali. Three quick tips to make sure your body is as ready as your bike:

  1. Warm up your body: Don’t start cold! Spend five to ten minutes doing dynamic stretches. Focus on your wrists, shoulders, and lower back, get your blood flowing to prevent injuries and common mistakes on the trail.
  2. Fuel with healthy nutrition: Eat a balanced meal with slow release carbs and natural sugars (like oats, whole wheat or bananas) before you ride to keep your energy high. Post-ride, focus on protein and fats to help your muscles recover from the Bali heat and the action on the trails.
  3. Stay hydrated: Drink your water! And adding some electrolytes to your water can be a game-changer. You’ll be sweating more than you realize in the forest and plain water isn’t always enough to prevent cramps and maintain focus.

License and Insurance: The Trail Basics

The Bali wilderness is no place to get lost or hurt without the right paperwork, and we always prioritize your safety. Since we ride on off-road trails and private tracks, you do not need a driver’s license to ride with us.

When it comes to the “what ifs,” we’ve got you covered. A common question is: What if I damage the bike or gear? You can breathe easy knowing that all accidental damage to the bike and protective gear is fully included in your package price (be sure to check our T&Cs for the full policy details).

However, it is important to know what is not included in the tour price. While we cover the bike and the gear, personal health and accident insurance are not included in the tour price. We strongly recommend that all tourists visiting Bali take out comprehensive travel insurance. Most standard policies exclude extreme sports (such as dirt biking), so make sure yours specifically covers hard enduro in Indonesia. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
